2021 Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 stands out in a crowded full-size truck market not only because of its power and capabilities but also because of the impressive cabin and the smooth ride. The 2021 model arrived with just some small changes to most of the lineup, and Ram added a new TRX model with the Hellcat engine to the lineup, along with a new Limited Longhorn trim.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Ram 1500 Tradesman comes with 18-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, heated exterior side mirrors, and rear privacy glass. The Big Horn has 18-inch alloy wheels and upgraded exterior trim elements, while the Rebel adds an off-road extension, unique exterior styling, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road tires. Step up to the Laramie for LED headlights or to the new Limited Longhorn for 20-inch wheels, side steps, and a power tailgate.
The Limited comes standard with Ram's air suspension and power-deployable running boards, or you can check out the TRX for 18-inch wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, five skid plates, and upgraded brakes.
Engine (Power)
The 1500's engine lineup starts with a 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine that puts out 305 horsepower. A 5.7-liter V-8 with 395 horsepower is available, or you can get a 3.0-liter turbodiesel that generates 260 horsepower. The new TRX uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that churns out 702 horsepower and gets 650 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Any of the engines is an excellent choice. Even the V-6 has plenty of power and impressive towing capabilities, but the V-8s and the diesel have even more towing power. Choosing one of the larger engines enables you to tow up to 12,750 pounds.
Interior
Depending on the cab, you'll have room for six in the Ram 1500. The Tradesman has the basics, while just a step up to the Big Horn adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth upholstery, and the option for a power-adjustable driver's seat. Moving up through the trims can get you heated and ventilated front seats, upgraded cabin materials, and wood interior trim. The Laramie has driver's seat memory settings and leather upholstery.
Starting with the Big Horn, tech features include an 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite radio, a CD player, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Big Horn also has audio controls on the steering wheel and two USB ports for the rear seats. A 12-inch touch screen is optional for some trims, and you can also get wireless charging, navigation, and HD radio.
Safety Features
Some of the safety features you'll get with the 2021 Ram 1500 include trailer sway control, stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Every model also has a rearview camera. The Laramie and higher trims all come with a forward collision warning and mitigating system with automatic braking, and the Limited adds a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. Choosing the Longhorn will make front and rear parking sensors standard, and if you add the Advanced Safety Group to any trim, you'll get adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and lane-keep assist.
